A good night out was had by all at this year’s annual Bubble Ball
Management from across Aston Hotels gathered together at the Marriott Newcastle Gosforth Park to raise money for Newcastle General Hospital’s Bubble Unit.
The ball – which raised just over £17,000 for the hospital ward – is organised by Aston’s operations director John Deighan.
Radio Newcastle breakfast show DJs Charlie Charlton and Alfie Joey were on hand to present the night which included a charity auction, live music, a top tombola as well as a delicious three-course meal.
Sat next to the dance floor, the Aston table- which included Tracey Astles Marketing Director, Paresh Kotecha Aston’s Managing Director and Scott Walters Finance Director, enjoyed a great night that went on into the small hours.
John, who helped organise the ball for the second year in a row, said: “The Bubble Ward at Newcastle General Hospital carries out life saving work every day. They treat very young babies born with “SKID” which is a disorder where they are born with total immune deficiency. The “bubble” unit treats children who are born without an immune system and who cannot fight the simplest of infections. The only way of keeping them safe from infection is to care for them in a “bubble”, a high-tech sterile space, while they are being treated.
Professor Andrew Cant and his team not only save these young lives but also change the course of their lives to grow up and live long and completely healthy lives. They need funds for research to improve their success rate from the current 90% to a full 100% thus eliminating the fatality of this awful birth defect.
