First Equal Sex Marriage in the UK takes place in Sheffield
Love is in the air this month but next it will be thoughts of weddings, as Sheffield wins the equal marriage ‘race’. The first Equal marriage has taken place in Sheffield on 29th of March 2014. Kyle Emerson and Richie Wood become the first same-sex couple in Sheffield to get married at a beautiful midnight ceremony. At least four gay couples have registered to become the first in Sheffield to get married, according to a leading equality campaigner.
How same-sex marriage differs from civil partnership
Civil partnership is a legal relationship exclusively for same-sex couples, distinct from marriage. It offers the same legal treatment as marriage across a range of matters, such as inheritance, life assurance and next of kin.
Up until 29 March opposite-sex couples can opt for a religious or civil marriage ceremony, whereas a same-sex partnership is an exclusively civil procedure.
