Gilnockie Tower

Gilnockie Tower is the only habitable Armstrong tower which is left in existence from the original 80 - 90 pele towers in the Eskdale and Liddesdale area. England can be seen from the top of the tower. Situated in a remarkably good defensive position, Gilnockie Tower was an excellent place to watch for a raid from across the border.
King Roberts the Bruce's Cave

In the winter of 1313 after suffering defeat, King Robert went into hiding in the cave. He spent three months living a solitary existence at a time when The Wars of Independence were at their bleakest for the Scots, then went forth from the cave on Cove estate, raised an army and won the Historic Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
