The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games Held in Sheffield

The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting which not only provides our elite young sports people with the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport. Responsibility for the development and organisation of the Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games lies with the Youth Sport Trust.

The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games is a multi-sport event that will take place from 12-15 September 2013 in Sheffield. Eight venues will host the event including Abbeydale Sport Ground, Pond’s Forge, iceSheffield, English Institute of Sport, Don Valley Stadium and 3 more to be confirmed.

The competition aims to re-enforce the experience of Olympic and Paralympic Games complete with Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games and its predecessor the UK School Games (2006-2011) have a strong track-record of providing a springboard for athletes who then go on to compete at a national level. Several School Games alumni went on to be part of London 2012 Team GB & Paralympics GB.

The Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games will give us insight into the make-up of our teams for both the 2016 and 2020 Games. Around 1,600 of the nation’s finest young sports stars will compete. Competition will be held in twelve current and future Olympic and Paralympic sports: Fencing, Rugby Sevens, Gymnastics, Hockey, Badminton, Athletics, Cycling, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball. There will be disability events in five sports: Athletics, Fencing, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Basketball.

Bridal Suites at the Aston Hotel Dumfries

Our Housekeeping team take great pride in preparing our bridal suites for our newly weds!  Pictured here the girls are proudly presenting the Moniaive Handmade Tartan Chocolates which are made from 100% organic chocolate just a few miles from the hotel.  Each bridal suite comes with these chocolates, prosecco, swan shaped towels, king-size bed, huge bathroom and views across 100 acres of beautiful gardens.  What a way to start married life!

Cullen Skink at the Aston Hotel Dumfries

Symon McGregor has been serving up Cullen Skink in the Brasserie for many years. Although the choices change regularly he wouldn’t dare take Cullen Skink off the menu, some of our guests come especially to have a bowl of this delicious Scottish favourite.  Using Arbroath smokies, leeks, potatoes and cream this dish is finished with a soft poached egg and some chopped chives.  We invite you to come try for yourself this signature dish.  Tables in the Brasserie can be booked by calling 01387 272 410, we look forward to welcoming you.

2013 sees the first Investec Ashes Test ever hosted at Emirates Durham ICG, but that won’t be the end of the rivalry as England will also be taking on Australia in International t20 action.

One of the oldest rivalries in sport will be resumed when the big hitters from England and Australia face off on Saturday 31st August 2013 at Emirates Durham ICG.

This isn’t just the men though, with England Women taking on the world’s number one ranked women’s team, Australia.Emirates Durham ICG will host an International T20 double header with England Women taking on Australia ahead of the Men’s England v Australia match

The women’s match is scheduled to take place from 10.15am with the men’s game starting at 2.30pm.

Dumfries Half Marathon 2013

Dust off your running shoes, stretch your legs and come join us for the 2013 annual Dumfries Half Marathon, Dumfries favourite half marathon.

The Dumfries Running Club invites you to join them in the running of the 2013 Half Marathon, the 32nd year of the race!

The race begins the historic Crichton grounds, it then heads out and along the Bankend road towards Caerlaverock, turning right towards Glencaple to enjoy a great view of Criffel Hill. The race follows the banks of the river Nith to finish at Kingholm Park.

Whether you are young or old, fit or unfit and novice or professional, the race appeals to all levels of runners.
